Supporting the
Growing Greener III Program

On Tuesday, I joined state legislators and Larry Williamson of the Growing Greener Coalition Partners to call for adequate increases for the Growing Greener III program, which would provide a much-needed boost in funding for conservation, preservation and recreation projects across the Commonwealth.

Formed in 1999, the Growing Greener program was designed to conserve natural resources, restore damaged waterways and land, and create prosperous and sustainable communities.

In less than 20 years, Growing Greener I & II projects have restored tens of thousands of acres of open space, farmland and abandoned mines, protected hundreds of miles of waterways, and reduced the risk of water pollution and flooding. Growing Greener has provided funds for maintaining our state park system and for the development of multipurpose trails, greenways and parks in our communities. While the successes have been many, there is still much work to do, and that is why I am a prime co-sponsor of legislation to continue this vital program.

House Bill 2458 would establish the framework for a Growing Greener III program to protect Pennsylvania’s water, land, forests and other natural resources; stimulate economic growth in our communities; and improve the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.
